This morning I had to say farewell to my bestest four-legged "Girly-Girl" friend Heidelberg.

She was named after the Heidelberg Digital Press, "Heidi" for short, because she was given to me while I was at work at a digital and pre-press printing company back in 1999.  At the time, the only place we could keep her safe and out of the way was in the press room where the company's brand new Heidelberg Digital Press resided. So, the name was perfect!

"Girly-Girl" was the nickname I gave her because she had a very "uppity" prance when she trotted and she DID NOT like walking through puddles of water (but for some reason never minded mud). This "prance" was always noticeable when she was on the hunt for the Texas-sized cockroaches of Texas.  lol

For a very long time I didn't know what breed she was. Me and all my friends and co-workers, at the time, had taken many guesses. At just under 8 weeks old it was hard to tell (Chow? Blue Heeler? Dalmation?).  Even the vets couldn't discern what type of breed she was. I wouldn't discover it for another 5 or 6 years later, with much thanks to Google! I would find another dog up for adoption that looked almost exactly like her... "Australian Cattle Dog"!

True to her breed, she was very, VERY protective of me and loyal to the end!

There will never be another like her.
